Cécile Coune appointed Chief Executive Officer of Aviabel PRESS RELEASE – Brussels, Belgium - 13 February 2012 Cécile Coune appointed Chief Executive Officer of Aviabel Aviabel SA, the Belgian aviation insurance company, has announced the appointment of Cécile Coune as Chief Executive Officer and President of the Management Committee, effective May 1st, 2012. Cécile Coune succeeds the current CEO, Philippe Vande Wal, who has reached retirement age. In accordance with current regulations, this appointment is submitted to the approval of the National Bank of Belgium. Cécile Coune, currently lawyer and partner at business law firm Liedekerke, is no stranger to the insurance business. She previously headed American insurer Chubb, and led AXA Art, which specialises in insuring high value art. Philippe Vande Wal successfully headed Aviabel for the last twelve years. On 26 January 2012, the General Assembly of Women on Board decided to reinforce its own board of directors, currently composed of the five female founding members, with three male directors. « Women on Board », whose objective is to promote female participation in boards of directors of Belgian enterprises (both public and private), commits itself to giving the right example in terms of gender diversity. At Women on Board, the board of directors’ role is to define the strategy and to set the priorities of the actions that have to be undertaken. In 2012 the organisation will focus primarily on the extension of its pool of female directors and its promotion with enterprises.
