Since 1922, Eqla (www.eqla.be), formerly known as the National Association for the Blind, has been working with and for blind and visually impaired people.
Through various local services, Eqla promotes their inclusion in society by building solutions for autonomy and fulfillment together with them.
Eqla is inviting a committed and motivated leader to join its Board of Directors. This voluntary position represents a unique opportunity to contribute to a centennial organization with profound social impact, supporting the inclusion and autonomy of blind and visually impaired people throughout Belgium.

What Eqla Does:
Comprehensive and personalized support for blind and visually impaired individuals
Training in new technologies to enhance digital autonomy
Access to cultural and leisure activities adapted to visual impairment
Training and awareness programs for the general public and professionals about visual disability Eqla employs around forty people spread across the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. In addition to its headquarters in Brussels, Eqla has branches in the provinces of Walloon Brabant, Hainaut, Namur, and Luxembourg.
- Voluntary mandate (unpaid position)
- Participation in approximately 8 Board meetings per year
- Occasional involvement in working groups or specific projects, according to availability and skills
To balance the skills of the current Board of Directors, the most sought-after profiles are those with:
Financial expertise (accounting, audit, budget management, management control, corporate or public finance)
Experience in the non-profit sector (NGO, non-profit organization, Foundation, etc.)
Experience and contacts in European Institutions
The ability to contribute to strategy and good governance of the association (experience on other boards, for example)
As Eqla operates in Brussels and Wallonia, the working language of the association is French.
- Actively participate in Board of Directors meetings
- Contribute to strategic reflection and long-term development of Eqla
- Provide support and critical perspective on major projects of the association, respecting the role of voluntary governance
- Provide critical, structured, and informed analysis of financial matters, and contribute to the financial supervision of the association in a logic of good governance
